Sebring 2023 Results & Commentary

Sebring 2023 Results & Commentary

What a remarkable start to the Carrera Cup season!  Dan finished Race 1 with 5th place finish (started 13th). In Race 2 he finished 5th as well (started 10th). It is obvious after testing and the Sebring weekend that the competition has increased for the 3rd year of Carrera Cup USA. Several racers who competed last year at the 10th place level are now competing for the 15th spot position this year. Also, two of the four drivers that were positioned ahead of Dan are young top superstars from Australia (Tom Sargent 21 years old) and Britain’s (Will Martin 20 years old).

Race 1 5th Place
Race 2 5th Place

Our lower than expected qualifications result was due to the fact that most of the top teams came in for a second set of stickers with 10 minutes left. As a result, we saw our 5th place qualifying position go from 5th to 13th in the last 7 minutes of qualifications! Lesson learned!!

Mihir Patel and his son, Sahvan, joined us in Sebring for Thursday’s race as they watched firsthand in Turn 1.  Tracie Axton came over from Bonita Springs to watch the race as well. Both members couldn’t say enough about the fun and action they experienced at Sebring this past weekend. We were also able to watch the WEC practice/qualifying and the IMSA practices. This was one of the largest and most exciting race events (from a racer’s perspective) that I have ever attended!

I’ve attached both race video streams for this past weekends Carrera Cup race. The commentary is well done and rather humorous as Dan stole the show with his talented passing and sudden popularity with the announcers. He’s now known as Speedy Daddy Dan!  Furthermore, the bright colored car with the new green wheels was also a hit with the announcers. Clearly, the #64 car was the most mentioned Cup Car in the race. I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to watch the videos. They are a hoot - and impressive!

We have our sights set on the Indy Car Long Beach race weekend (4/14-16)!!

  • Saturday, April 15th 5:15pm (Race1)
  • Sunday, April 16th 4:20pm (Race2) - following the Indy Car race

Go Daddy Dan!!

Cheers,

Comments from Dan:

I’m thrilled to have completed the first weekend with some solid points in the championship after a trying weekend with struggles in practice and qualifying. Completing the race distances against other cars taught me a lot also.

Passing as many cars as I did in the races was a real thrill and surprise for me honestly because the middle of the field is very competitive and I had to work really hard against some of them.

I know Thomas (teammate) really well and he is a really class driver and very capable and we are working well together in the same direction with setups. He should be in the top6 at the very least so Im encouraged by the weekend he had in that there is more speed to come in our cars and our weekend performance that will hopefully move us further up the grid and give us the opportunity to fight for even better positions in the races this year.

It’s a lot of work from everyone involved but the racing is intense and the car is really fun to drive. Looking forward to more and better next time.

Dan
